Pattern

  • 名詞+をください noun + をください (水をください)
  • 名詞+を+数量+ください noun + を + quantity + ください (切符を二枚ください)

Structure

Say the thing, add を, then ください: 水をください. For amounts, put the number and counter between: 切符を二枚ください (two tickets).

When to use it

Use it when you want someone to hand you something or to order in a shop: これをください (I'll take this). The を is often dropped in speech: これください.

Difference from てください

をください is for asking for a thing. To ask someone to do an action, use verb て-form + ください (書いてください). Adding お in front of the noun (お水をください) makes it even more polite.

Examples

  • 水(みず)をください。

    Mizu o kudasai.

    Please give me water.

    The simplest form.

二枚: number + counter for flat things.

  • この本(ほん)をください。

    Kono hon o kudasai.

    Please give me this book.

    Often said when buying something.

Common mistakes

  • Put the quantity before ください: 二枚ください, not ください二枚.
  • To ask someone to do something, use てください, not をください.
