Pattern

Just do this

~ばいい tells the listener the one thing they need to do. 困ったときは私に聞けばいいです means that asking me is enough. It is a friendly way to show a simple solution and also works as advice.

~たらいい has almost the same meaning and is a little softer in advice. In the negative, ~なければいい is rare; use ~ないほうがいい instead. To a superior, avoid it as a direct instruction and use ~ていただければ.

Examples

When you're in trouble, you can just ask me.

Michi ga wakarenakereba, chizu o mireba ii.

If you don't know the way, you can just look at a map.

Tsukareta no nara, sukoshi yasumeba ii desu yo.

If you're tired, you should just rest a little.

Common mistakes

  • Use the ば-form: 聞けばいい, not 聞くばいい.
  • To a superior, it can sound like an order. Soften it, e.g. ~
