② Nepali grammar rules

1. Manner before the action

बिस्तारै बोल्नुहोस् (please speak slowly) / राम्ररी पढ्नुहोस् (please read/study carefully) modify the action.
Compare adjective राम्रो in राम्रो किताब (a good book) with adverb राम्ररी in राम्ररी पढ्नु (to read/study properly).

2. धेरै versus धेरै पटक (many times)

धेरै पानी (a lot of water) gives a large amount of water; धेरै पढ्छु (I read a lot) much reading; धेरै पटक पढ्छु (I read many times) many repetitions.
The modified expression and presence of पटक distinguish amount from frequency.

3. अलि versus थोरै

अलि बिस्तारै (a little more slowly) means a little more slowly; थोरै पानी (a little water) a small amount of water.
Their uses overlap, but अलि is also common in softened requests such as अलि हेर्नुहोस् (please have a look).

4. Frequency expressions

प्रायः means usually, सधैं always, कहिलेकाहीँ sometimes.
Compare कहिलेकाहीँ जान्छु (I sometimes go) with negative कहिल्यै जाँदिनँ (I never go). कहिल्यै receives its never reading in combination with negation.

5. Scope of पनि and मात्र

म पनि जान्छु (I go too) adds the speaker; म चिया मात्र खान्छु (I drink only tea) limits the item to tea.
Scope depends on the expression before पनि/मात्र, so placement changes what is added or restricted.

कति can be used for an exclamation as well as a question.
