JLPT N4 · Time & sequence
おきに (oki ni)
~おきに — “every ~ / at intervals of ~”
In short · Attached to a number or time expression, it shows something repeats at regular intervals: 十分おきに, 一日おきに.
Pattern
-
数量・時間+おきに十分おきに / 四時間おきに / 一日おきに
Meaning
一日おきに literally means “leaving one day in between”, i.e. every other day (once every two days). With hours and minutes, 四時間おきに is used much like “every four hours”.
How it is used
Common for timetables, medicine directions and exercise habits. Be careful: it is not the same as 毎日 (every day).
Examples
