Pattern

How to use it

~たい states the speaker’s own wish (or asks the listener’s). When you observe another person’s wish from outside, such as a younger brother or a child, use ~たがる.

The ている form

For a wish present right now, use ~たがっている. For a habit or tendency, ~たがる works (子どもは甘いものばかり食べたがる).
