Pattern

  • 動詞て形+も Verb te-form + も (降っても)
  • い形容詞:〜くても I-adjective ~くても (高くても)
  • 名詞・な形容詞:〜でも Noun / na-adjective ~でも (雨でも)

Meaning

雨が降っても、試合はします means that the game goes ahead despite rain. It pairs well with intensifiers: いくら考えても, どんなに~ても.

Versus のに

ても is for conditions that have not happened yet (or general ones). For surprise or complaint about a fact that has already happened, use のに.

Examples

  • For complaint about an already-happened fact, use のに.
