Pattern

  • 〜から、〜。 Because …, … .

Giving a reason

Put から after the reason: さむいから、まどを しめます (Because it's cold, I'll close the window).

Order: reason then result

The reason + から comes first and the result second — the opposite order to English "I'll close it because …".

After です too

After a noun / な-adjective sentence, use ですから or だから: やすみですから、いきません (Because it's a day off, I won't go).

Examples

  • さむいから、まどを しめます。

    Samui kara, mado o shimemasu.

Because it's cold, I'll close the window.

  • じかんが ないから、いそぎます。

    Jikan ga nai kara, isogimasu.

Because there's no time, I'll hurry.

  • あしたは やすみですから、でかけます。

Ashita wa yasumi desu kara, dekakemasu.

Because tomorrow is a day off, I'll go out.

After a noun sentence, use ですから.

Common mistakes

  • This から means "because". The same から also marks a starting point ("from") — see the particle.
  • The reason comes before から and the result after it. Don't put the result first.
