Pattern

  • 文+ね sentence + ね (いい天気ですね)

Seeking agreement

いい天気ですね expects a reply like そうですね. It works as a greeting, too.

Confirming

With a rising tone it checks something (あしたは休みですね?).

Difference from よ

ね seeks agreement about shared knowledge. よ tells the listener something they do not know.

Examples

  • いい天気(てんき)ですね。

    Ii tenki desu ne.

    Nice weather, isn't it?

  • この店(みせ)は安(やす)いですね。

Kono mise wa yasui desu ne.

This shop is cheap, isn't it?

  • 今日(きょう)は寒(さむ)いですね。

    Kyō wa samui desu ne.

    It's cold today, isn't it?

Common mistakes

  • Using ね alone for news the listener does not know can sound pushy.
  • The tone of ね changes its meaning.
